Accra: An Accra Circuit Court has ordered a mental evaluation for Adina-Akapo Abdou Moudjibou, a businessman extradited from Togo in connection with a series of robberies. Moudjibou, who faces robbery charges, had his plea reserved during the court proceedings.
According to Ghana News Agency, Moudjibou's alleged accomplice, Marzouk Alidu, a motor rider, has been charged with abetment of crime. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Richard Amoah, the prosecutor, informed the court that Moudjibou exhibited unusual behavior following the recording of his caution statement. ASP Amoah requested a psychiatric evaluation, noting that Moudjibou's condition had deteriorated to the point where he sometimes engaged in self-harmful activities.
Furthermore, the prosecution sought to amend the charge sheet, which initially stated that Moudjibou was at large, despite his extradition from Togo through police collaboration. The court, led by Basilia Adjei Tawiah, did not take pleas and remanded Moudjibou into the custody of the National Intelligence Bureau. Meanwhile, Alidu was granted bail, but he has yet to meet the conditions set by the court.
The case has been adjourned to June 3, 2025. The complainant, Dr. Jemimah Asare Morjah, a medical doctor at Accra Regional Hospital, resides in East Legon. She reported that on April 13, 2024, Alidu allegedly entered her bedroom through the washroom window, masked and armed, and demanded valuables. He ransacked the room, stealing $200,000 in cash, a gold waist chain valued at GH?20,000, a gold necklace worth GH?18,000, assorted jewelry worth GH?5,000, and a registered CZ 75.5P pistol belonging to her husband, Agbenyo Clement Edem.
Alidu reportedly packed the stolen items into a backpack, warned Dr. Morjah to remain inside, and fled the scene. Police investigations confirmed the robbery, revealing that Moudjibou had transported Alidu to the scene on a motorbike. Alidu was arrested on September 4, 2024, at East Airport following another robbery involving Moudjibou. During interrogation, Alidu confessed to transporting Moudjibou to the complainant's house for the robbery and later picking him up.
Alidu provided Moudjibou's contact details to the police and led officers to Madina Libya Quarters, but Moudjibou managed to escape. On September 7, 2024, Alidu guided police to the crime scene for reconstruction, identifying where he had dropped Moudjibou, and directed officers to other locations linked to similar robberies. An arrest warrant was issued for Moudjibou, and Interpol was notified.
On January 30, 2025, Interpol Togo informed the Ghana Police of Moudjibou's arrest in Lom©. He was extradited to Ghana on May 14, 2025, for prosecution. On the same day, an identification parade was conducted at CID Headquarters, but Alidu failed to recognize Moudjibou as his accomplice. Despite this, Moudjibou admitted in his caution statement to involvement in multiple robberies, assisted by a motor rider and Mohammed Djando, who remains at large. Investigations are ongoing.
