Keta: Over 300 flood-affected victims in the Lawoshieme Electoral Area in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region have received relief items from the Municipal National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to alleviate their plights and challenges.
According to Ghana News Agency, the relief items donated to victims at Lawoshieme, Agorvinu, Hagodzi, Mamime, Songbe, among others, included bags of rice, a box of cooking oil, mosquito nets, and other essential supplies. Mr. Wonder Setsoafia Deynu, the NADMO Director at Keta, highlighted the devastating impact of the floods that occurred between May and June 2025 on these communities. He stated, “Many residents lost their homes, livelihoods, and property, leaving them in dire need of assistance, and our support is to give back hope to the affected victims.”
Mr. Deynu explained that the donation was made possible through the efforts and support of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Wisdom Seade, and the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Mr. Innocent Komla Gawuah. He emphasized that providing relief items is a crucial step in supporting communities affected by disasters, helping to ease the pain and challenges faced by residents, and providing the necessary assistance to recover and rebuild for a better future.
“We are playing a critical role in disaster management in our communities here since we are responsible for providing relief items to communities affected by disasters and supporting them in their recovery efforts,” Mr. Deynu said. He added that ongoing support and collaboration among the government, NADMO, and other stakeholders are essential to provide sustainable solutions for preventing subsequent disasters and challenges faced by the communities.
Mr. Israel Mensah, the Assembly Member of the area, received the donation on behalf of the communities and expressed gratitude to the donors. He noted that the relief items had brought hope to many residents and strengthened the bonds between the communities, the assembly, and NADMO. The donations to the Lawoshieme Electoral Area demonstrate the commitment of the government and NADMO to support communities affected by disasters.
Residents expressed their deepest appreciation for the support. The communities within the Lawoshieme Electoral Area have also appealed to the government to address other pressing challenges, including roads, electricity, water, health centers, and other social amenities to improve the lives of residents. They also acknowledged the efforts of the Member of Parliament, Mr. Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, the MCE, NADMO, and other individuals in lobbying for the relief items.
