Accra: The Government has announced a suspension of the National Roads Authority Act 2024 (Act 1118) to allow for additional stakeholder engagement. This decision follows concerns raised about the Act, which was originally enacted in July 2024 with the aim of improving the management of the nation's road infrastructure.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Act sought to merge the Ghana Highway Authority, the Department of Urban Roads, and the Department of Feeder Roads into a single entity. This restructuring was intended to optimize management and coordination within the road sector. A statement signed by Nasir Ahmad Yartey, the Head of the Public Relations Unit at the Ministry of Roads and Highways, confirmed the suspension pending further consultation with stakeholders.

The statement emphasized the Government's commitment to addressing the significant concerns brought forward by key stakeholders. It also reassured the public of the Ministry's dedication to streamlining operations and boosting coordination in the road sector.
