Interior Minister and Italy’s new ambassador discuss bilateral cooperation and irregular migration

Tunis: Partnership programmes between the Tunisian and Italian Ministries of Interior and the efforts of both sides in the fight against irregular migration were the focus of a meeting on Tuesday between Interior Minister Kamel Feki and the new Italian Ambassador to Tunisia, Alessandro Prunas. The meeting, which took place at the request of the Italian diplomat, stressed "the need for the relevant UN organisations to work with Tunisia and Italy to intensify the voluntary return of irregular migrants who come to Tunisia to their countries of origin," according to a press release from the interior ministry. The two sides reaffirmed the will and determination of the Tunisian and Italian sides to move forward on the path of consolidating relations and upgrading them to the highest level, reflecting the depth and breadth of the historical relations between the two countries and serving the interests of the two friendly peoples.
