Judicial Staff Urged to Uphold Integrity and Professionalism

Accra: Her Ladyship, Justice Hafisata Amaliboba, a justice of the Supreme Court, has urged staff of the Judicial Service to exhibit professionalism in the discharge of their duties to protect the integrity and sanctity of the service. She emphasized that the professionalism of the staff was crucial due to the significant role the Judicial Service played in the governance of the country through the administration of justice and maintaining law and order.

According to Ghana News Agency, Justice Amaliboba addressed a Judicial Service of Ghana (JSG) staff durbar in Wa, warning that any staff of the service who misconducts themselves would face appropriate sanctions. The JSG staff durbar is an annual event where staff and management engage in discussions on matters affecting justice delivery and staff welfare. Representing His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, the Acting Chief Justice, Justice Amaliboba acknowledged challenges faced by staff, particularly regarding their conditions of service.

She announced that a constitutional instrument outlining comprehensive conditions of service for JSG staff would soon come into effect. Justice Amaliboba explained, “So, I’m happy to inform you that the attorney general has laid the regulations before parliament, and it is expected that same will become law upon the inflection of 21 days. We, therefore, expect that with a new CI enforced, your conditions of service will improve significantly.” She noted that the constitutional instrument would also include provisions for efficient service delivery and disciplinary measures to ensure compliance with the highest ethical standards required of the Service.

Dr. Cyracus B. Bapuuroh, the Acting Judicial Secretary, encouraged strong collaboration between staff and management to deliver optimal services to the public. He advised staff to follow due processes in seeking annual or study leave and to pursue relevant courses for promotion recognition. Dr. Bapuuroh also commended the media for collaborating with the Judicial Service to keep the populace informed about legal proceedings and justice administration, stating, “The media play a very critical role in shaping public opinion and fostering a better understanding of the judiciary’s role in our democracy.”

His Honour Alhaji Yussif Assibey, the Supervising High Court Judge in Wa, expressed gratitude to the management for initiating steps to enhance the High Court in Wa, stating, “Indeed, the Court Complex is our target; it is our prayer that sooner than later, that magnificent edifice will be completed for our use.” During the durbar, staff suggested support for interpreters to learn French to help overcome language barriers in service delivery. Retired staff of the JSG were recognized with cash awards and certificates for their dedicated service.
