Accra: The leaders of Muslim stakeholder organizations and institutions in Ghana have called upon President John Dramani Mahama to lend his support for the establishment of a permanent and well-structured Hajj management system in the country. The leaders believe that such a system would provide much-needed stability and consistent management of the Hajj pilgrimage.

According to Ghana News Agency, the leaders, under the auspices of the National Chief Imam, issued a joint statement to petition the President for an urgent overhaul of the current Hajj management body. They highlighted issues of transparency, accountability, and ineffective organization within the existing system, which have led to difficulties and economic hardships for the Muslim community. The leaders emphasized the need for the President’s leadership to restore confidence in the Hajj management process, ensuring it serves the interests of Ghanaian Muslims.

The statement further urged the President to support the implementation of robust measures aimed at preventing corruption within Hajj management. This includes the introduction of strict financial controls and auditing mechanisms to ensure that all Hajj operations are conducted with integrity and fairness. The leaders stressed the importance of holding officials accountable for any corrupt practices and improving channels for reporting financial malfeasance.

By establishing a permanent Hajj Board, the leaders argue, President Mahama would fulfill his promise to enhance the experience for Ghanaian pilgrims. They expressed confidence that such a move would leave a lasting legacy, benefiting the Muslim community and demonstrating the President’s commitment to the welfare of all Ghanaians.
