Sunyani: Mrs. Fati Kine-Lam, the Bono Regional Director for the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), has called upon the newly recruited Municipal and District Coordinators to prioritize disaster risk initiatives. The coordinators are expected to lead regular clean-up exercises, engage with communities, and increase radio discussions about disaster prevention and management at local levels.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mrs. Kine-Lam emphasized the importance of collaboration with stakeholders during an orientation workshop for the new coordinators. The workshop, organized by the Bono Regional Directorate of NADMO, aimed to enlighten the coordinators about their core responsibilities. She highlighted that disaster management is a shared responsibility and urged the coordinators to work closely with the Ghana National Fire Service, Environmental Health Officers, Environmental Protection Authority, and the National Petroleum Authority.
Mrs. Kine-Lam also encouraged the coordinators to work with traditional authorities, religious bodies, and local clubs in managing disaster-related activities. She stressed the necessity of building relationships with Members of Parliament and Municipal and District Chief Executives to effectively prevent disasters in local communities.
The coordinators were advised to seek opportunities for funding by collaborating with civil society organizations to broaden their operations. They were urged to connect with Assembly Members and Zonal coordinators to gather accurate data on disasters. Nana Yeboah, the Bono Regional Operations Officer of NADMO, added that tree planting is a vital measure for disaster prevention and climate change mitigation, urging coordinators to lead tree planting exercises in schools and communities.
