Accra: The National Technical Working Committee (NTWC) on the GITFiC Agenda 2031 has successfully held its first series of meetings at the National AfCFTA Coordinating Office in Accra.

According to Ghana News Agency, the meetings, held from 26th to 29th August 2025, brought together key state institutions to drive Ghana’s leadership in Africa’s debt and trade agenda. The Committee is co-chaired by Mr. Selasi Koffi Ackom, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana International Trade and Finance Conference (GITFiC), and Dr. Michael Kusi Appiah, Assistant Director of Research at the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC). It includes representatives from various national ministries and departments.

The discussions were centered on operationalizing the GITFiC Agenda 2031, a six-year framework developed by GITFiC with input from the United Nations and the African Development Bank. The framework aims to advance Africa’s role in the Global Debt Initiative (GDI) and strengthen AfCFTA Implementation Support through educational initiatives and youth engagement.

Over the three sessions, the committee adopted the name National Technical Working Committee (NTWC) to reflect the inclusive participation of various ministries, departments, and agencies. They confirmed that four years of the Agenda 2031 have already been integrated into Ghana’s national development plan. Key documents reviewed included the GDI Position Paper, Agenda 2031, and the 8th GITFiC Conference Communiqu©.

The committee also agreed on a Terms of Reference (ToR) to guide operations and align institutional responsibilities. Discussions included financial and logistical considerations, advocacy strategies, and preparations for the upcoming 9th GITFiC Conference, which will host the 2nd Global Debt Initiative Dialogue and the 1st AfCFTA Student Congress in Accra later this year.

The NTWC reaffirmed its commitment to delivering high-level impact and ensuring coordinated national action under Agenda 2031. Members resolved to enhance collaboration and maintain continuous engagement through a dedicated digital platform. The outcomes of the meetings will be submitted to the Office of the President as part of Ghana’s strategic roadmap for advancing debt reforms, trade integration, and economic diplomacy across Africa and the Global South.
