Dzorwulu: Staff of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) on Wednesday cleaned up their office environs and the streets of Dzorwulu to rid the community of filth. The exercise, held with the support of the Bus Stop Boys as part of their welfare week celebration, sought to emphasize the need to promote work in a healthy environment.

According to Ghana News Agency, the cleanup served as an opportunity for the staff to come out in their numbers to socialize, while sweeping the streets, desilting drains, and collecting refuse to promote environmental health and sustainability. Mr. Daniel Oduro Mintah, Secretary of the NPA Staff Welfare Association, stated that the exercise also aimed to encourage corporate institutions to actively partake in keeping their office surroundings clean.

He emphasized that it was not the responsibility of the government or cleaning agencies alone to clean up the community, and called on all workers to help keep their offices and frontages clean. Mr. Mintah urged hawkers on the streets of Dzorwulu to stop loitering while selling and ensure that refuse generated during work was properly disposed of afterward.

Madam Maureen Adowa Duori, a staff member of the NPA, mentioned that the exercise highlighted the NPA’s commitment to community well-being and environmental responsibility. She called for collaboration between corporate institutions and community groups to achieve a cleaner Ghana.

The NPA Staff Welfare Association celebrated its welfare week from August 25 to September 1, to encourage staff to mingle and celebrate their collective achievements. The week-long celebration, organized once a year for about 600 NPA staff across the regions, served as an opportunity for the workers to pause, connect, and reflect on their contributions to the organization’s growth.

The NPA was established by an Act of Parliament (NPA Act 2005, ACT 691) to regulate the petroleum downstream industry in Ghana. As a regulator, the Authority ensures that the industry remains efficient, profitable, and fair, while also ensuring that consumers receive value for money.
