Sunyani: Mr Yaw Dabie Appiah Mensah, an elder of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bono Region, has appealed to the high-ranking and senior members of the party to avoid petty squabbles that can potentially disintegrate supporters. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Odomase in the Sunyani West Constituency, he asked the party leadership to be proactive in tackling the 'unpleasant issues' that had been unfolding within the party after its 2024 Presidential Candidate undertook his nationwide 'Thank you tour'.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Mensah expressed concern over the internal wrangling that had characterized the 'thank you tour' of the former Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. He stressed that if these issues were left unresolved, they could jeopardize the party's unity and its chances in the Election 2028. Mr Mensah noted that Dr Bawumia initiated the tour with the intent to unite the party and emphasized the need for forgiveness and forward-thinking to achieve electoral success in the future.

He highlighted a recent disagreement between Mr Kennedy Agyapong, a 2024 Presidential Aspirant of the party, and Mr Kwame Baffoe, the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, as an example of the unhealthy discord that needs addressing. Mr Mensah urged the party leadership to resolve such conflicts, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing the party's interests over personal ambitions for the sake of the Election 2028.

Mr Mensah, a former Organiser of the NPP in the then Brong-Ahafo Region, acknowledged that internal party elections often lead to factionalism but insisted that it should not fracture the party's unity. He warned that failure to maintain a united front could hinder the party's ability to regain political power in 2028. He also cautioned that political opponents are closely watching the NPP's internal dynamics, and any unresolved differences could undermine the party and its leader, Dr Bawumia, in the public eye.

He called on disgruntled members and supporters to move past their grievances and focus on the party's future. Mr Mensah reminded supporters and members that the NPP had remained a strong party under a great elephant for decades and expressed confidence in the party's ability to overcome challenges and win future elections.
