NRSA Urges Responsible Driving Following Atwedie Crash

Atwedie: The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has expressed condolences to the families of the 16 people who lost their lives in the tragic road crash on the Atwedie-Asankare stretch of last week, calling for responsible driving to safeguard lives. The Authority also assured the bereaved families of its unwavering support as they grieved the loss of their loved ones.

According to Ghana News Agency, the crash, which left several others injured, involved a Ford Transit Bus, with registration number GT 4674-22, and a DAF XF articulated tanker truck, with registration number GT 1674-17. A statement issued by management wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.

The NRSA noted that the incident reflected a disturbing rise in fatal road crashes and called on the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) to intensify enforcement of traffic regulations nationwide. It urged motorists to adhere strictly to safety protocols, including observing speed limits, maintaining vehicles, and practicing responsible driving, stressing that road safety was a shared responsibility.

The Authority reaffirmed its collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, transport unions, and civil society organisations to strengthen interventions aimed at reducing accidents and safeguarding lives on Ghana’s roads.
