Kumasi: Mr. Akwasi Addai Odike, Founder of the Union Government (UG), has urged New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates to elect Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum as the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections. Though not a member of the NPP, Mr. Odike said the outcome of internal party contests carries national significance. Speaking to journalists in Kumasi, he described Dr. Adutwum as a visionary leader whose record in education makes him the most qualified among potential candidates.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Odike praised Dr. Adutwum’s achievements as Minister for Education, particularly his promotion of STEM and TVET initiatives, citing them as examples of transformational leadership. ‘If he can deliver such reforms in education, imagine what he could do as President,’ he noted.

He warned against the growing monetisation of politics, expressing concern that vote-buying within party primaries could compromise the quality of leadership. ‘The future of this nation is too important to be sold to the highest bidder,’ he cautioned.

He also called for public engagement in major political party primaries, including those of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as their outcomes influence national leadership. Mr. Odike concluded by urging NPP delegates to prioritise vision, character, and competence in their choice of a flagbearer, saying Dr. Adutwum represents the party’s best chance at ensuring victory and driving sustainable development.
