Twifo-hemang: Mr Isaac Agyiri, Executive Director of Showbouy Fun Club, an agricultural and entrepreneurship organization, has constituted a 15-student body in the Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira (THLD) District to motivate students to develop interests in agriculture. The group selected from Twifo Hemang Senior High Technical School (HEMSTECH), includes five females.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Agyiri stated that the rationale was to inculcate in students an interest in agriculture to help boost the sector in the district and beyond. He urged educational institutions to venture into agricultural production to foster a culture of farming among students, spurring them into agriculture entrepreneurship to contribute to national food sufficiency and economic growth.
Mr Agyiri mentioned that together with students from HEMSTECH, 10 acres of school land were cultivated to plant and harvest maize to feed the students. Currently, he said the club had nursed 50,000 seedlings of cabbage, cucumber, green pepper, spring onions, lettuce, and many more to be handed over to the Education Directorate for distribution to about 50 schools.
He also commended the government for the creation of the Feed Ghana initiative, designed to engage young people in agriculture to support the national food supply system. In response, the student body promised to help boost agriculture among students in the district, as school farms would serve as a demonstration model for schools.
