Accra: Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko finished their matchday 30 game with no goals, as both teams shared the points. The game played at the Accra Sports Stadium was fiercely contested, with numerous squandered opportunities and impressive goalkeeping saves.
According to Ghana News Agency, with the points shared, Kotoko remains fourth with 51 points, while Hearts of Oak is sixth with 46 points. Kotoko started the first half on the front foot and nearly took the lead in the first few minutes, but Samba Oneil's header was off target. The Phobians struggled to create any chances in the final third, with Kotoko enjoying the majority of the possession.
Kwame Poku had an opportunity to give Kotoko the lead, but Hearts goalie Benjamin Asare proved why he was the nation's number one goalkeeper as he easily pulled off a fantastic save. There was a big penalty appeal from Kotoko halfway through the first half after Kwame Poku was brought down in the penalty area but referee Aduntera Jacob waved off the appeal.
Hearts of Oak finished the first half the much stronger side as they began to trouble the Kotoko defence. Konadu Yiadom had the clearest opportunity for the Phobians on the brink of half-time, but his effort went off target. The first half ended scoreless.
The match was very open in the second half, and Hearts of Oak winger Stephen Appiah Asare nearly broke the deadlock, but Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Camara pulled off a brilliant save. Kotoko's striker Albert Amoah had a glorious opportunity to put his side ahead in the 50th minute but narrowly skewed his effort. It was a very entertaining second half as both sides were eagerly searching for the opener.
Benjamin Asare was very influential in the post for Hearts, as he kept his side in the game with some good saves. Albert Amoah nearly stole all three points in the latter stages of the game for Kotoko, but his effort was impressively saved by Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare. Both sides huffed and puffed for a goal in the final stages of the match, but they settled for a point each.
