TIA: Reported investments up 34.6% in late February 2024

Tunis: Reported investments were up 34.6% to TND 1,249.6 million in the first two months of 2024 compared with the same period in 2023, according to data released on Wednesday by the Tunisian Investment Authority (TIA) (as at February 29, 2024). These investments will contribute to the creation of 16,251 jobs in various economic sectors, up 15% compared with the same period in 2023. //Preponderance of start-ups Investments from start-up operations clearly outnumbered those from extension projects, reaching TND 1,038.7 million, or 83% of the total reported investments. The number of jobs to be created through start-up operations far outstripped those generated by extensions, totalling 13,767 jobs, accounting for 85% of new jobs generated. In terms of sectoral breakdown, industry leads the way in terms of investment intentions, accounting for 31% of the total reported investments. This sector also plays a leading role in job creation, accounting for 42%. Investment in the agricultural sector came second, at TND 325.6 million, or 26% of all reported investments, helping create 2,135 jobs (13% of all reported jobs). The renewables sector is gaining in importance, coming in third place thanks to structuring investments. Ranked among the priority sectors, the sector recorded an investment volume of TND 273.9 million in the first two months of 2024, or 22% of investment intentions. These projects, reported to the TIA, involve two types of renewable energy, depending on the source: wind energy and photovoltaic energy. Projects of national interest (investment amount greater than or equal to TND 50 million or jobs = 500) account for 29% of the total volume of reported investments during the first two months of 2024. This is equivalent to a substantial cumulative amount of TND 368.4 million. Among the reported investments, 35% involve foreign participation for an investment volume of TND 439.2 million, helping generate 2,985 jobs (22% of the jobs to be created).
