Accra: Mr Joshua Ansah, Secretary-General of the Ghana Trades Union Congress, has extended congratulations to President John Dramani Mahama on behalf of Organized Labour for his electoral victory in the December 7, 2024 election, marking his return to leadership. Ansah's comments were delivered during the 2025 May Day National Parade at Blackstar Square in Accra, where he emphasized the significance of the victory as a reflection of the Ghanaian populace's confidence in Mahama and his party.

According to Ghana News Agency, Ansah highlighted the importance of Mahama's renewed mandate as an opportunity to pursue a national agenda focused on inclusion, fairness, and social justice, with a strong emphasis on decent work. This year's May Day theme, 'Resetting Pay and Working Conditions in Ghana - The Role of Stakeholders,' was noted as particularly relevant to the current challenges faced by the nation and its workforce, serving as a call for transformative approaches to valuing labour and shaping the future of work, wages, and welfare for Ghanaian workers.

Ansah pointed out the recent establishment of various committees and initiatives addressing national issues, such as the Constitutional Review Committee, GoldBoard, Ministerial Committee on ECG privatization, and the Labour Export Programme. He expressed concern over the exclusion of Organized Labour from these processes and the rapid pace at which some initiatives were being implemented.

The Secretary-General urged for a change in this approach, emphasizing that the involvement of Organized Labour would enhance the committees' work and initiatives. He cautioned against prioritizing speed over substance and expressed confidence in President Mahama's commitment to social dialogue and inclusive governance. Ansah stressed the need for thoughtful reforms on the labour front that align with fairness and social justice principles.
