Accra: The University of Leicester Alumni Association, Ghana Chapter has officially launched its centenary celebration, emphasizing the importance of leadership and community involvement among its members. The event called upon alumni to extend their influence beyond professional settings and into areas where their impact can foster positive change.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Daniel K. Owusu, Country Managing Partner of Deloitte Ghana, highlighted the dual challenges and opportunities facing Ghana. He expressed confidence in the collective talents of the alumni to address these issues. “Through partnerships, innovation, and a strong sense of public duty, Leicester-trained minds can help strengthen our institutions, reform systems, and drive inclusive growth,” he stated.
Mr. Owusu encouraged alumni to actively mentor the next generation, engage in public discourse, and collaborate on real-world problems. He urged, “Let us leave behind footprints that future Leicester students will be proud to follow.”
Dr. Annie Babah-Alargi, President of the University of Leicester Alumni Ghana Chapter, remarked on the significant milestone the centenary represents for both the association and the broader university community. She recounted the chapter’s initiation in 2009 by Dr. Jacob and Mrs. Jane Ashong and its progress under her leadership since 2023.
Dr. Babah-Alargi outlined upcoming centenary activities, including a dinner dance and awards ceremony to honor alumni contributions. Scheduled for December 5, 2025, at Alisa Hotel, the event promises to celebrate the chapter’s achievements, with tickets available for purchase.
She emphasized the association’s objectives of fostering continuous learning and networking, promoting university programs, and partnering with businesses and UK agencies for meaningful initiatives. Gratitude was extended to past and present leaders and members for their unwavering support.
Mr. Christian Rogg, British High Commissioner to Ghana, in a speech delivered on his behalf, encouraged alumni to view the centenary as a moment to renew their commitment to their alma mater and their nation. He underscored the importance of alumni sharing their stories and contributing to national and global development.
Mr. Rogg concluded, “As we look toward the future, we want to see more platforms where alumni like you can share your stories, contribute to national development, and create solutions to drive impact both locally and globally.”
