Accra: Vivo Energy Ghana, the exclusive marketer and distributor of Shell-branded fuels and lubricants, has commissioned a renovated washroom facility for La Enobal Basic School in Labone, Accra. The initiative underscores the company's commitment to improving educational infrastructure and supporting the development of communities within its operational areas.
According to Ghana News Agency, the event, held at the school premises, was attended by key dignitaries including the Director of Education of La-Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly, Madam Habiba Kotomah, Management of Vivo Energy Ghana, the Parent-Teacher Association, and headmasters of neighboring schools. Kilai Muasya, the Finance Manager of Vivo Energy Ghana, emphasized the importance of creating a conducive learning environment, noting that sanitation facilities are crucial for the health and well-being of students. He stated, "At Vivo Energy Ghana, we believe in growing with our communities and providing a clean and safe learning environment is foundational to achieving quality education."
Madam Habiba Kotomah expressed her gratitude to Vivo Energy Ghana and United Way Ghana for their support, highlighting how the new facility addresses a critical need for modern conveniences for both teachers and students. During the ceremony, she was honored with a citation recognizing her dedication to advancing education.
The contractor for the project, Mr. Desmond Dickson of Azmon Limited, provided details about the renovation, which transformed the old structure into a modern facility. The work included converting pit latrines into water closets and adding urinals and handwashing basins for both male and female washrooms. A dedicated washroom for teachers was also constructed, along with the installation of a 2500-litre overhead water tank to ensure a regular water supply.
The upgraded washroom now meets high standards of hygiene and accessibility, providing a safe and dignified experience for all users. This project is part of Vivo Energy Ghana's broader initiatives to promote sustainable development in local communities, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal Six (SDG 6), which aims to ensure access to clean water and sanitation for all.
