Bolgatanga: Reverend Eastwood Anaba, President of the Eastwood Anaba Ministries (EAM), has called on residents of the Upper East Region to actively work towards eradicating tribal conflicts. He stressed that such conflicts and ethnic divisions are significant barriers to the region's development and urged residents to unite in overcoming these challenges.
According to Ghana News Agency, Reverend Anaba made these remarks while chairing the 2024 annual performance review meeting of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) in Bolgatanga. He highlighted that statements and divisions based on ethnic origins hinder progress and advocated for peaceful coexistence among residents.
Reverend Anaba drew a parallel with the biblical story of the Tower of Babel, where linguistic divisions impeded development. He warned that the numerous dialects and languages in the region could similarly obstruct progress if not addressed. He also noted divisions even among the Frafra tribe, which he deemed detrimental to development.
Mr. Donatus Akamugri Atanga, the Regional Minister, in a speech delivered on his behalf, acknowledged the contributions of development partners and stakeholders to healthcare improvements in the region. He particularly praised Reverend Anaba for his support in various sectors, including health.
Highlighting maternal healthcare challenges, Mr. Atanga mentioned that the region recorded 40 maternal deaths in 2024. He called for collective efforts to enhance access to quality maternal health services, aiming to make a significant impact on the lives of women, children, and families.
The review meeting was attended by GHS directors, administrators, health training institution heads, nurse managers, traditional rulers, development partners, and media representatives, among other stakeholders.
