Health Minister Ali Mrabet held a working session Friday in Tunis with a World Health Organisation (WHO) delegation and experts from the University of Montreal School of Public Health.
The visiting officials are in Tunisia as part of the launch of a programme to scale up healthcare sector operational capacities.
The minister commended the efforts made by the mission and its collaboration with ministry structures to get this programme started. This would help introduce reforms within the framework of the national health policy by 2030, he said.
There is also need to build the capacities of health professionals, Mrabet added. He called, in this vein, for furthering the "fruitful" cooperation with the University of Montreal through the launch of twinning projects and mechanisms to ensure their sustainability and appraise their efficiency.
The minister also recommended the creation of a school of public health in harmony with the creation of a master in public health at the Tunis Faculty of Medicine five years ago,
Visiting experts said they are ready to contribute to the success of this programme and provide necessary educational resources to meet the sector's needs.
WHO representative in Tunis laid emphasis on the key importance of this strategic programme and the organisation's readiness to collaborate with the ministry to support it.
