Accra: An Accra Circuit Court has convicted a 36-year-old job seeker for stealing a mobile phone from the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) office in Accra.

According to Ghana News Agency, Foster Nyarko entered the office of a Principal Administrator at CHRAJ and took her Samsung Galaxy A54 5G mobile phone, which was valued at GHC 4,999. Nyarko was apprehended on January 30, 2025, for a similar offence at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, Ridge.

Security footage exposed Nyarko's actions, leading to charges of unlawful entry and stealing. He pleaded guilty to these charges. The Court, led by Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, convicted Nyarko based on his plea but postponed the sentencing to February 27, 2025.

Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori Appiah, leading the prosecution, stated that the complainant, Celis-Jane Nyadroh, was a Principal Administrator at CHRAJ's headquarters in Accra. Nyarko, who was unemployed and residing in Takoradi Effiakuma in the Western Region, approached CHRAJ's front desk on October 23, 2024, claiming to follow up on a job application.

Nyarko entered the complainant's office, located on the first floor, Room 15, in her absence and took her phone. The incident was reported to the Ministries Police Station in Accra by the complainant on October 24, 2024.

Nyarko's capture occurred on January 30, 2025, when he was identified by management at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. CCTV footage provided to the Ministries Police by the complainant and her witnesses confirmed Nyarko's involvement in the theft. On January 31, 2025, Nyarko was escorted to the crime scene, where he admitted to stealing the phone and entering the office.
