Nkwanta: A joint military-police team has recovered some cache of arms at the Nkwanta Township, in a major operation aimed at disarming the warring factions in the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, weapons recovered included rifles, pump-action guns, and cartridges, which were believed to have been used in the recent clashes between the rival factions in the area. The operation is part of efforts to bring peace to the region and prevent further violence.
The conflict involves the Akyode, Adele, and Challa ethnic groups, all of which are claiming ownership of Nkwanta township. This long-standing dispute has contributed to unrest and violence in the area, necessitating the intervention of the authorities.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Lawrence Wiafe, Crime Officer of Nkwanta Municipal Command, confirmed the swoop action and stated that calm had been restored with the arrival of the joint military-police taskforce. The presence of the taskforce is expected to maintain peace and order while further investigations and negotiations continue.
