Obuasi: The less privileged in some communities in the Obuasi Municipality were not left out in the festive season as families had fun in commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ. La Vie Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation in Obuasi, organised a party for such people to put smile on their faces as members of society during the yuletide.

According to Ghana News Agency, as an annual ritual, the Foundation brought together vulnerable and marginalised people including widows, orphans, and persons with disabilities and served them food and drinks. The NGO also presented bags of rice, tinned tomatoes, biscuits, clothes, and other products to the various groups present at the event.

Ms. Yvonne Adomako Asabre, Executive Director of La Vie Foundation, said it was the 12th year running that the organisation had been organising such events through its 'Hope Festival' programme to show affection and care to vulnerable groups in Obuasi and beyond. She said the NGO since its formation had extended outreach programmes to impoverished communities like Komfokrom in the Obuasi Municipality, where it empowered children to develop interest in school.

The Foundation also contributed to illuminating the community by collaborating with the Columbian Embassy and AGA to do a special lighting project. Ms. Asabre noted that this year's event had proven to be the most successful and highly patronised, expressing gratitude to the Underground Mining Alliance (UMA) and other benevolent individuals for their support.

'We are always excited to bring all these people together to show them love. Our major predisposition is to bring hope to the hopeless and that is what we have set ourselves to do,' she noted. She called on other benevolent individuals and organisations to support her organisation to be able to sustain the programme and extend it to other vulnerable groups in society.

Vida Brago Amofa, a physically challenged individual, commended La Vie Foundation for their continuous support, adding that many of her colleagues found it difficult to put food on the table during the festive season. Mr. Philippe Pearce, a Project Manager for the Underground Mining Alliance, underscored the importance of lending a helping hand to the needy and less privileged in society. He noted that such support for the marginalised groups empowered and made them feel loved.
