Winneba: The Church of Latter-Day Saints' Winneba District branch hosted its inaugural Obaasema pageant, emphasizing that being a virtuous woman entails possessing qualities such as kindness, honesty, modesty, unity, and truthfulness. Dr. Linda Cobbina, a lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, highlighted the importance of these virtues for women to showcase their unique roles in society.

According to Ghana News Agency, the event, themed 'Exploring Ghanaian Culture through Local Foods for Healthy Living,' aimed to integrate customs and traditions into religious activities and celebrate Ghana's holistic culture. Participants from various wards, including Apam, Kojo Beedu, Winneba, and others, came together for the event. Judges for the pageant included Dr. Evelyn E. Panyin, Madam Patience Darko, and Mr. Michael Edumadze, all lecturers at UEW.

Contestants, adorned in locally made attires and traditional costumes, highlighted the rich culture of Ghana's regions, presenting local cuisines such as epitse, mfantsenfantse, and tuo zaafi. Alongside these dishes, local drinks like doka and sobolo were also featured. Dr. Cobbina remarked on the importance of these cultural explorations, noting that they not only offer a culinary adventure but also promote a healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Cobbina underscored the significance of prayer, scripture study, and embodying virtues for women to be considered Obaasema of God. She praised the contestants and partners for their contributions to the event, which also focused on promoting hygienic preparation of local cuisines to ensure healthy living. At the conclusion of the program, the contestant from the Apam ward was awarded the title of overall best, receiving a certificate, a gas cylinder, and other souvenirs. All participants received certificates and gas cylinders as tokens of appreciation.
