UK Minister for Africa to Attend Ghana’s Presidential Inauguration

Accra: Lord Collins of Highbury, the British Minister for Africa, will on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, represent the UK Government at the inauguration of President-elect John Mahama in Accra. This visit underscores the UK's commitment to strengthening its bilateral relationship with Ghana as the new government takes office.

According to Ghana News Agency, this visit follows Lord Collins's previous engagement in Ghana in September 2024, highlighting the UK's intention to further enhance its partnership with the West African nation. In a statement issued in Accra, Lord Collins expressed his honor in returning to Ghana for the inauguration, extending warm wishes from the UK to President Mahama and the people of Ghana. He remarked on the deep friendship between the two countries and the potential for expanding their collaboration.

Lord Collins emphasized the UK's eagerness to continue working closely with Ghana to advance shared goals, including economic growth, security, and addressing the climate crisis. Madam Harriet Thompson, the British High Commissioner to Ghana, also congratulated John Mahama on his second term as President, expressing confidence in the strengthening partnership under his leadership.

In addition to attending the inauguration, Lord Collins will hold meetings with Heads of State and Ministers from Kenya, Nigeria, and Cote d'Ivoire to discuss the UK's evolving partnership with Africa, focusing on trade and security.
