International Labour Day: ARP undertakes to enforce workers’ rights

Tunis: On the occasion of International Labour Day, which falls on May 1 of each year, the Presidency of the Assemply of People's Representatives (ARP) underlined the pivotal role played by the the legislator and its willingness to deal with all bills aimed at developing the legal labour framework and consolidating the rights of employees and workers at all production sites. The ARP Presidency pointed out, in a statement on Wednesday, that this approach is effectively shown through the initiative of MPs to table two proposed laws aimed at revising and completing the law regulating the general statute of employees of the State, local authorities and public institutions of an administrative nature and the regulation of maternity, paternity and parental leave in the public and private sectors. The presidency extended its congratulations on this occasion to all Tunisian workers, reiterating its recognition of the efforts exerted by the labour classes that contribute to boosting the development process and build ing the new Tunisia, expressing its certainty that consolidating gains and safeguarding rights and freedoms will always remain a priority for Tunisia so that workers and employees in various locations can exercise their activities in the best conditions while enjoying the appropriate conditions provided by trade union liberties and workers' rights that allow them to work and give and achieve better results with positive repercussions at all levels, the same source added. The annual observance of the International Labour Day is an occasion to value the status of the working class and recognise their intensive efforts and generous giving, through which they contribute to the nation building and ensure the development and progress of societies. The economic and social difficulties that Tunisia is going through today call on everyone to step up efforts and use the gains of the working class, especially the freedom of trade union work, to dedicate themselves to the service of the country and engage actively and responsibly in consolidating and preserving these gains, the ARP presidency pointed out.
