Mount Zion Ministry celebrates mothers with thanksgiving service

Pastor David Aidoo, Resident Pastor of the Mount Zion Evangelistic Ministry has commended Ghanaian mothers for being resilient and serving strong as pillars for the survival of their families.

He said mothers continued to play their traditional backbone role and in the modern world, have also assumed frontline duties to support the family, and their labour of love would certainly not be in vain.

Pastor Aidoo made the commendation at a special thanksgiving service to celebrate Mothers' Day at Achimota in Accra on Sunday.

Mothers' Day is celebrated honouring the mother of the family as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society.

Pastor Aidoo said, 'The world will continue to celebrate your special love strength, patience, care, and tenderness as mothers, sisters, aunties, guardians, and friends and make bold sacrifices for your children and other relatives.'

The Resident Pastor commended the unique strength of women which enabled them to carry children in their wombs for nine months with their patience, special heart and tenderness enabled them to go through the daily struggles.

'Gallant mothers are indeed gifts which are not replaceable, as they play the role of teachers, psychologists, servants and go every length to solve the problems of their children,' Pastor Aidoo said.

He said unconditional love and special hearts lead to inspire, encourage and give confidence to their children when all seemed to have ended.

'As the world celebrates the heroic and courageous mothers the world has every reason to be excited while they watch their day-old babies grow to boys, girls, men and women, Pastor Aidoo said.

'I see this day as a special day to give a standing ovation to all Ghanaian women across the country, Pastor Aidoo added.

‘I have the experience and vision to reset Ghana’ – John Mahama

Mr John Dramani Mahama, newly elected Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress for the 2024 elections has said he has the experience and the vision to reset the country and return her to the path of prosperity.

He said he was ready to provide the leadership to turn things around in the country, adding at this crucial moment when things were not going well, there was no need to experiment with the leadership of the country.

He said this while delivering a speech in Tamale to formally accept his election as the Presidential Candidate of the NDC for the 2024 Presidential election.

The event was attended by some senior members of the NDC including its National Chairman, General Secretary, the 2020 Vice Presidential Candidate of the NDC, Minority Leader in Parliament, the wife of Mr Mahama, and some of his relatives amongst others.

On Saturday, May 13, Mr Mahama, during the NDC's Presidential Primaries, secured 297,603 votes representing 989 per cent of the total valid ballots cast to lead the opposition party as its Presidential Candidate into the 2024 general election.

Mr Mahama accused the current government of mismanaging the economy resulting in hardship on the people and reiterated the need for NDC members, sympathisers and the citizenry to vote for him to win the 2024 elections to reset the country on the path of prosperity.

He said his tour of the country showed a lot of challenges and promised to ensure prudent management of the economy, deliver infrastructure and restore confidence in the economy.

On his resounding victory during the Presidential Primaries, he said it was a signal by the NDC to win the 2024 general election and thanked delegates and party members for believing in him, saying 'I pledge to lead you into a resounding victory in 2024' saluting his competitors in the NDC's Presidential Primaries for what they did in the race.

Mr Mahama urged Members of Parliament of the NDC, who lost their bids during the Parliamentary Primaries, to continue to put their experiences at the service of the party, and called on party members to rededicate themselves to the party with their resources to win the 2024 elections at both Presidential and Parliamentary levels.

He said 'We will campaign vigorously', adding the campaigns would be decentralised where branches and constituencies would be empowered to set targets and achieve them.

He further thanked the Electoral Commission for working hard to ensure successful elections.

Volta NDC calls for calm after Ketu North Primaries

Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for calm and media sobriety after the just-ended presidential and parliamentary primaries held in the Ketu North Constituency of the Volta Region.

He said the Regional Secretariat of the party was concerned about the excessive and intemperate media discussions in the aftermath of the parliamentary primaries, thereby raising the political temperature.

'While we welcome freedom of expression and speech in our fledgling multiparty democracy, we wish to caution that it is done with civility and circumspection,' he said.

Mr Gunu, in a release copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday, said media platforms provided to engage in political discourse should not be turned into the promotion of hate, insults and use of intemperate language.

He called on supporters of the various contestants to eschew divisive tendencies and work for unity.

'As the party leadership works to resolve the issues surrounding the outcome of the election in the constituency, we should all respect the party structures and not do anything untoward that will be inimical to the political fortunes of our party.'

Mr Gunu reiterated that no political machinations could break or divide the NDC in Ketu North and assured the party faithful that the will of the delegates would not be subverted.

'All we call for is calm, restraint, unity and cohesion in Ketu North constituency so that we can enhance our political fortunes by retaining the parliamentary seat and increasing the margin of victory in the presidential election come December 7, 2024.'

He called on party members, the media, and the public to remain calm and exercise utmost circumspection on matters relating to the Ketu North elections.

Meanwhile, Mr Prince Agbemenya, the EC's returning officer of the constituency, told the GNA that there was no winner as the two leading candidates, Edem Agbana and John Kobla Adanu, each polled 358 votes following a recount.

The EC has, therefore, fixed a re-run to be conducted in 21 days, which falls on Sunday, June 4, 2023 subject to the NDC's schedule.

He, however, said when the votes were counted after the election, Edem Agbana was leading with 360 as against John Adanu's 359, a difference of one vote, but an agent of Adanu called for a recount necessitating a revalidation of all the ballot papers.

During the recount, the EC detected that three ballot papers were not validated by the stamp of the Electoral Commission, which made them invalid based on the rules governing the election.
